Nicholas Benton is here!

  • Nicholas_2
After 31 hours of labor (starting from the very beginning, or 19 hours from when we arrived at the hospital), our beautiful son is here! He made his entrance into our world at 12:54pm on September, 16, 2007. He weighed in at 7lb 2oz and is 20" long. His head was 14". Lots and lots of hair (we'll try to get some better shots of his hair!) As you can imagine, Nick and I are extremely thrilled, exhausted, and relieved that he's here; safe, sound & living! Thank you for everyone's support. We'd like to especially thank Jen our Doula, Rita & Kim (the rest of our birth team), Dr. V, the great nurses at UM, and our families. Enjoy the photos! More to come!

This album contains pictures of Nicholas from 12/16/07 until... He turned 3 months old on 12/16/07. On 12/11/07 he weighed 14lbs 4oz. On 12/26 he weighed 15lbs. So he gained 6oz in 15 days. For those of you doing the math, that's almost 0.5oz per day (0.4oz per day). Although he's only 3 months old, he's wearing 6 months clothes, as well as some 6-9months clothes! What a big boy! His baptism was supposed to be on 12/16 but had to be rescheduled due to a winter storm that blew through! We rescheduled it for 12/30 (see pics in a separate album!)

Nicholas turned 2 months old on November 16, 2007. He weighed 12lbs 13oz and was 23" long. He has almost doubled his weight and has grown 3" since birth. The pics in this album are from his 2nd month to his 3rd month, or to confuse people, his 3rd month home with us!

Pregnancy 2007: Due in September!

  • Img_0057
We discovered we were expecting for the second time on January 18, 2007. I had gone to the LAPOM meeting and decided I couldn't wait any longer to test. This is just one of the MANY tests I took - it came up positive so fast Nick had to read the instructions to make sure it was ok! Boy is he an engineer!

NBK's Baptism

  • Me_my_auntie_julie
Nicholas' original day to be baptized was on his 3 month birthday, however, a winter storm blew through so we had to reschedule. Thankfully, Fr. Karl said that we could do it on December 30th. Nick and I chose Rita as his Godmother and Steve as his Godfather. We thought it fitting since they were our Matron of Honor & Best Man at our wedding! People in attendance: Grandma & Grandpa D., Aunt Monica & Mike, Kim W., Bridget & Dan, Uncle Steve (of course & Family), Rita (of course), Auntie Beth & Uncle Jim, Doug & Kathy B., Great Grams & Papa K. Dan & Lisa joined us for the celebration at our house afterward.

Our Other Girls (Chloe & Gracie)

  • Gracie_6weeks
Before we became the proud parents of daughters with wings, we have two girls living with us. The furkids. Chloe Marie was born on January 6, 2003 to Karen Prescott of Kurlypups. She got her name from a numerology book at Borders - it's Greek. Gracie Lou was born on October 30, 2005. She got her name from Sandra Bullock's character in "Miss Congeniality." It's not Greek. Her momma was Chloe's Aunt and her daddy was Chloe's uncle. Does that make them cousins?

Nicholas' 1st Boo!

  • Nicholas_is_hot_stuff
Halloween 2007! Nicholas Benton is 6 weeks, 3 days old! He had a BIG day! First, he went with Mommy to UM for her post-partum visit and he got to see Dr. V. again! Then, it was home to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters and to visit with the neighbors. A BIG THANKS to Frank, Pam, Derek & Ashley for the "Baby's 1st Boo!" outfit, and to Heidi for the Chili Pepper costume.

Memories of the Twins' Pregnancy (2006)

  • Dsc05067
We painted the nursery the first week of July. Well, we is probably stretching it. I did the corners and the edges of the room, around all the doors, the closets and the window. Nick did all the rest! He also assembled all of the furniture, which we bought at IKEA. I wish we had more pictures of me, but we didn't think about taking them until my mom went to Italy and we thought she would miss out on my progression.

Nicholas' First Christmas

  • My_first_christmas_wore_me_out
Nicholas was 3 months old for his First Christmas. We have so much to be thankful for this year...obviously, the #1 gift we received was in the form of our earth child, our rainbow baby! Nicholas got a LOT of presents and had a lot of fun being held by different family members. Mommy & Daddy loved having him here! It was definitely a Christmas to remember!

It's been a long time since I updated!

So many things to talk about!  I guess that's what happens when you don't update your blog for 2 weeks!

Nicholas recovered well from his last 'viral infection'.  Saying it that way makes it sound so much worse than it was - which was likely a bad cold that caused a REALLY high fever for several days.  Luckily, we've been free of illness since then, but I better go knock some wood just in case.

In the past few weeks, we've:

  • Celebrated Greek Easter (before he got sick)
  • Gone to Libby's BDay Party (Nicholas' first kids party)
  • Met up with Adrienne & Teagan (we met online and she lives near Lansing)
  • Had the house cleaned professionally (especially great news for me!)
  • Gone to a Tiger's Game
  • Celebrated Mother's Day

There's been so much...we feel like we've been going non-stop for a while now.  Hopefully, things will start to cool off a bit before we leave for Hawai'i.  We leave on July 4, so that's 1 month, 3 weeks and 1 day until we leave!

One thing that I haven't done in a while is give some stats!  Nicholas weighs about 20lbs (or more).  He is wearing 12mos clothes and up.  He's very tall!  He has been doing a lot lately, including scooting on his butt to get to his toys, rocking back and forth while sitting, going from sitting to his tummy, and his newest feat?  Learning how to clap when I say "Yeah!" or play "Batti Manini" with him.

Greek Easter was a lot of fun!  It was held down at Jim & Beth's house, so that made it very easy for Nick and I to take Nicholas.  I ended up winning the 'red egg game' which means that I'm supposed to have a year of good luck & prosperity!

What else is new?  We had a lot of drama last week!  I came home from picking up Nicholas to find blood spots on the floor.  It turns out Chloe's toenail was bleeding and there was blood ALL over the house!  On our bed, on the off-white carpet, on the wood floor (that had just been cleaned on Monday).  Luckily, Jim & Beth were home and came to my rescue since Nick was at golf.

The outing to the Tiger's game was a big success!  We went online and found out we could take our diaper bag and stroller (so long as it fit under the seats) so we took our Combi that my mom & dad got us.  It folds in a tri-fold fashion so it's not much bigger than an umbrella stroller when folded.  We took a lot of pictures and Nicholas looked so cute in his little Tigers hat and outfit!  One of the ticket takers even said that Nicholas had "Magglio hair" which was referring to the curls that were peeking out from under his hat in the back - like Ordonez' hair!

Mother's Day was celebrated by me opening my gifts in the morning.   Nick got me a gift certificate to ATL - Ann Taylor Loft - my favorite store for work clothes.  He also got me a gift card to Old Navy from Nicholas.  And...three stainless steel charms - two girls and a boy.  One for Angelina, one for Gabriella, and one for Nicholas.

We went over to Meier Flowerland and picked up a hanging basket to take out to the girls' grave.  Since the weather was yucky (rained all day and was cold) we couldn't do our original plan of going up to MSU's 4-H Children's Garden to visit the girls' brick and take pics of Nicholas.

This weekend we plan on staying home, and getting some work done around the house.  We have to work on our flower beds all around the house - they were neglected last summer since I was pg and so this year they really need a lot of work!

Please see new pics of Nicholas in the albums to the left!

I LOVE all the new pictures! I'm so glad we were able to meet up before our babies got too big :) I can't wait to get together again! Teagan wants to pull Nick's hair again ;)

I had a few minutes today and stopped by for a quick peak. Your new pictures of Nicholas are wonderful. I cannot believe how much he is growing and changing. His first haircut will be amazing when he will change from a baby to a toddler!

I have missed our regular talks since you have returned to work. And of course, I am always on the go and sometimes hard to reach. I hope you realize I am always willing to talk and listen when you need a friend. I didn't understand until today you have had some difficult days recently. I just tend to get self absorbed and busy trying to keeping track of what I need to do each day.

I thought of calling, but I thought this would be a nice surprise to let you know that I am thinking about you today. Also, I do not question why you are a member of LAPOM. I just think of you as a friend and expect you to return again and again. Take care of yourself, Nick and Nicholas. - Lori

One More Day

  • Daily Reminder for Busy Moms
One More Day... *This morning, I am going to step over the laundry, and pick you up and take you to the park to play. *I will leave the dishes in the sink, and let you teach me how to put that puzzle of yours together. *I will laugh when I feel like crying and take a deep breath when the day and all the worries of the future feel too overwhelming. *I will smile every time your beautiful eyes look into mine, and every time you speak I will listen attentively, for your voice is music to my ears. *This afternoon, I will unplug the telephone and keep the computer off, and sit with you in the backyard and blow bubbles. *I will jump in puddles with you and make mud pies until we are both covered in our creations. *I will not raise my voice or grumble under my breath as I try to focus your attention on the task at hand or call your name for the second time. *I will not worry about what you are going to do when you grow up, or second-guess every decision I have made where you are concerned. *This evening, I will let you stay up late while we sit on the porch and count all the stars. *We will have a water fight at bath time until my clothes are completely soaked and our laughter is deafening. *I will hold you in my arms and tell you the story about how you were born and how much I loved you from the very beginning. *As I run my fingers through your hair, I will simply be grateful that God has given me the greatest gift ever given, and I will tell you over and over how much I love you. *I will think about the mothers and fathers who are searching for their missing children, the mothers and fathers who are visiting their child's grave instead of their bedroom, and mothers and fathers who are in hospital rooms watching their children suffer senselessly, and screaming inside that they can't handle it anymore. *And when I kiss you good night, I will hold you a little tighter, a little longer. I will thank God for you, and ask Him for nothing, except one more day..............
